The End of BeMeWeightPoints

The Google app "BeMeWeightPoints" has been unpublished. The "Weight Watchers"company contacted me and notified me of their copyright on the word "POINTS", so I can't publish it anymore. The app was downloaded nearly 100,000 times, it was free and without adds.

BeMeProtest Mobile Released

The mobile version of BeMeProtest has been posted in the Google Market. It uses the built in GPS to record the protester's location. The mobile app works on the iPhone as well due to the web based architecture and can also be accessed through BeMeProtest top menu.

Thank You Google for the Free Nexus One

Two weeks ago I received an email from Google, saying:

"Due to your contribution to the success of Android Market, we would like to present you with a brand new Android device as part of our developer device seeding program. You are receiving this message because you're one of the top developers in Android Market with one or more of your applications having a 3.5 star or higher rating and more than 5,000 unique downloads. "

Well, today it actually came by Fedex as they promised. It is an amazing phone, and it will help to create new content for the Android operating system. So for that I have to say: Thank You Google for the Free Nexus One phone!

BeMeProtest Beta Released

BeMeProtest is the web application where you can share your complaints with the world. People used to go to the streets to protest... Not anymore. This web app lets you complain, rant and protest from the comfort of your own home.

The desktop web version of BeMeProtest is in Beta, and the mobile web version is coming out in a couple of months. Read more in the "About BeMeProtest" page.

BeMeBlackBox Released

BeMeBlackBox for the Android operating system is an app for your vehicle.

What it does is simple: It continuously records and deletes video from a windshield mounted phone. When you crash, or when you press the Save button, it saves the last X seconds, and the previous video file just in case. You can set the length of the video file.

If selected, it will also upload the file automatically to YouTube.

No more saying "I wish I had recorded that!".

Now you say "I recorded that with BeMeBlackBox".

All Motorola users (Cliq, Droid, etc...): The Motorola phones have a certain difference that makes them crash with specific video functions, thus making them incompatible with BeMeBlackBox. This behavior can NOT be reproduced in the emulator.

Since the Android Motorola phones are not available in Canada, I will not be able to work around that problem as I do not have any access to the hardware. Hopefully in the near future. My deepest apologies.

Motorola Droid Updates

BeMeMorse and BeMeWeightPoints have been updated to support Android 2.0.

The Android 2.0 (used in phones like Motorola Droid) platform enables multiple resolutions, we need to acount for that from now on.

List of devices errors, DeviceMonitor]Failed

Found this problem while developing BeMeVoiceChanger. The Eclipse IDE says peiodically DeviceMonitor]Failed, and adb says in List of devices that the device if offline intermittently. After reinstalling all development components again (adb, ddms, sdk...), the problem was found: Not enough power in the USB plug. Reconnecting the cable into the back plug instead of front solved the problem.

Why is it important to support landscape mode in Android apps?

Looking for answers on that one. The assumption is that for basic apps like calculators users will prefer to hold the Android in portrait mode. Or not?

BeMeCollective apps now available for the Google Android

BeMeMorse and BeMeWeightPoints have been re-written for the Android Google Operating System. They have been uploaded as free apps to test the Android Market. The next "Heavy " apps will be following if this succeeds.

The OS itself is very cooperative. After dealing with previous OS's and having to suffer through muddy APIs it is a big relief to finally code against a smart OS which actually uses the best of the previous generations' technologies. We believe a bright future is ahead for this OS.

Update for August 5th 2009

The four Samsung Instinct applications are being downloaded by many users. Most of them are obviously the free ones, BeMeMorse and BeMeWeightPoints. There are links at the right side to the sale pages of these apps. BeMeJot, the drawing application, got a few good reviews here .

Update for May 2009,

BeMeCollective is now selling applications for Samsung Instinct phones, through the website http://instinct-software.com. The API restrictions are still preventing from developing the good stuff. We'll see how it works. The phone code is Java and it puts anything Microsoft does to shames. BeMeCollective predicts the end of Microsoft before 2040.

Update March 2009

No new functionality added. The site runs and a few people use it as an instant messenger, not many.

Waiting for the hardware to start appearing in the market, and carrying the cost of the web server maintenance...

Update for May 2008

The website is up and running with 40 simultaneous connections. The binocular optical remote gadget includes NightHawk, Tele and SleepyGuard. Some users are already using it, for example to gauge temperatures of outdoor BBQs. One company which manufactures video glasses has shown interest in the project but it is still too early to determine if there is any compatibility.
Stability of the website is looking very promising, we need more volume to really put it to the test.
